Organised group street skates are a fantastic, fun way to skate and socialise! They can be found the world over, the most popular being the Friday Night Fever in Paris, which can attract 15,000 skaters. The NottinghamSkaters Wednesday Night Skate, (NSWNS), does not quite attract that many, but is still great fun!

The skate is every Wednesday, from April to November, (weather permitting). Meet at 7:45pm for a prompt 8:00pm departure in the (new) Old Market Square in Nottingham city centre (south side, next to the flower bed). The skate lasts around two hours and usually covers around 12 miles. Bring Jelly Babies (very important).

IMPORTANT NOTE 1: The Wednesday Night Skate is an unmarshalled street skate on public roads and cycle paths. It is therefore not suitable for beginners. You must be able to skate at a reasonable pace and stop and turn effectively. If you are unsure of your abilities, come along to one of our weekend meetup and try the Saturday Stroll before attempting the Wednesday night skate.

IMPORTANT NOTE 2: When we say street skate, we mean skating (several miles) on city streets. We do not mean aggressive street skating. The NSWNS does not involve meeting up and skating around Nottingham looking for rails to grind or stairs to jump. If you wish to attempt the NSWNS wearing aggressive skates then you're welcome to, (many others have in the past), but be prepared for the fact that you're going to be putting in a lot more effort than the rest of us to travel at the same speed.

For more information, discussion and updates on the WNS, see the forum here.

The Wednesday Night Skate is called either on or off by 6pm on the evening of the skate:

The status of the next Wednesday Night Skate on 4th August 2010 is: pending...
